Podcast Transcript

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts

Podcast #30: Intuitive Readings – What’s the point?

Hi everyone and welcome back to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcast. This is Lisa from PracticallyIntuitive.com – thanks for listening in.

The January special package of readings has been so successful that I’m extending the offer into February. The deal is a set of two separate one-hour readings with me, your friendly intuitive chick, for $150. I’ve found that two sessions is a great way to bring through guidance and then work on putting it into action with some room for tweaking those actions and integrating what shows up.

So, if you haven’t already booked your sessions, jump on it! This offer definitely ends on February 29th.

Let me just tease you a bit with a new class I’ll be offering in March – if you’ve ever thought you’d like to do intutive readings for others but are not sure how to do that or where the heck to start, this one is for you. I’ll be offering an eight week program that will not only teach you how to do those readings at a professional level, but help you find your own way of doing it. It will be limited to six people who will work together over the two month period, supporting each other and growing their skills. At the end of it, you’ll be confident in what you get and ready to take your skills out into the world. Whether you want to do it professionally or just as a way to be of service to others, you’ll know where your guidance is coming from and how to help people put that guidance into action. (Can you tell I’m excited about it?? I can’t wait to get this going!)

Look for more information and a free Q&A call to talk more about it.

And all that leads me to today’s topic: What is the point of getting an intuitive reading? Why would someone seek that out and what can they hope to come away with?

Several years ago, I did a Spirit Guide reading as a gift for a friend. I spent hours and hours talking with her guides to get their names, how they worked with her, and anything else that came through. I typed it all up (about 15 pages worth) and made it all into a pretty presentation. I gave it to her and several days later she came back to me saying “This is lovely, thank you so much. Now, what do I do with it?” and it really made me stop to think – Yeah! What DO you do with that? How would all that information help her with things going on in her life?

And out of that one question she asked me, Practically Intuitive was born. I wanted to bring through guidance that could help people resolve issues in their life or illuminate the next step. What good is it knowing your Guide’s name is Malcolm and he reaches you by touching the tip of your nose? How does that help you figure out what’s the best road to take on your journey?

It doesn’t.

I have had many a reading in my day. In fact, I was quite the afficianado of intuitive readings – if it looked cool, I’d try it. And I have to tell you, I spent quite a few dollars on readings that were of little to no help to me at all. I will never get another reading at a psychic fair, for example. And not because the practitioners weren’t decent readers but because I cannot take in and process information in that atmosphere. I know that about myself.

I’ve had readings that told me what star seed planet I’m from without giving me any information about what that means to me here and now. Or readings that talked about what I’ve done in other lifetimes…how does that help me now? The information may be useful but it was left to me to interpret and figure out what to do about it. That’s like a doctor going “Yep, you’ve had a heart attack. Good luck to you!” and leaving you to find out more. That’s not what I’m paying the doctor for and it’s not what you pay for when you engage an intuitive reader.

When I started doing intuitive readings for others, it was with the very clear intent that the information I brought through, whether from Guides, through the Akashic records or whatever – had to be applicable to every day life here on earth. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I consider what I do very sacred work. Sure, in these podcasts and even in readings with me on the phone, I show my dorky, goofy side. Because there’s no reason it all has to be so solemn. But I do take the fact that those who engage me for a reading allow me access to their soul very seriously. And I treat it that way, working to help move them a few steps more down their path.

People come for readings to bring to light things they may not be able to see. They know something isn’t quite working but can’t figure out what it is. I’m able to hear their Guides so well that I make getting the messages, the cues and the guidance really easy. Not only that, but I’ll make sure they come away from our work with steps and guidance to create some movement.

Intuitive readings and working with practitioners who do energetic work is an investment in yourself. It’s your way of saying to the Universe “I’m open and ready to do the work I’ve been called to do.”

Make sure your investment is one that pays dividends – seek out an intuitive who understands that it’s not just pretty words from far away Guides but validation, support and most of all, things you can put into action to continue the work.

I know I’m a bit militant but that just shows you how strongly I feel about it as a practitioner. And for those I train to do this work, that will be my focus as well. The information you bring through has got to have some application to the person you’re reading for or you’ve wasted your time and theirs.

Whew! Okay, I’ll get down off my high horse here. But this is an important topic and one I’ll probably talk about in future posts or podcasts.

Please feel free to comment on this podcast either at the Practically Intuitive Facebook page or on the post for this podcast itself. I’d love to hear what you think makes for a good intuitive reading and what experiences (good and bad) you’ve had in the past.

That’s all for this podcast – enjoy your week and I’ll see you next time! This is Lisa from PracticallyIntuitive.com, bye for now.

This one is particularly apt for where we are now in our collective consciousness.

The Importance of Self Awareness

“Each physical life offers an opportunity to expand the soul. Life lessons are created to offer the choice in regard to the accomplishment of that. The physical reality offers the choices but alas also offers many distractions that can keep one from attaining their full potential.

Attempt each day to have awareness of your participation. Within the chatter and noise of the physical lies a path to the core of your own soul. It is important to maintain the trueness of that path by being totally aware of your participation in this physical realm.

Decide to release unnecessary drama that can cloud your purpose. Often that includes separation from those who are creating the drama, and taking responsibility for your energy within the moment. A complicated moment it may seem, however, once the energy is silenced, the clarity of your soul speaks loudly.

Take the time for the exploration. Be aware of your soul and its need in this reality. Often the chaos is a reflection of those around you, not necessarily your own vibration. By being self aware, you may be able to discern the root of the chaos.

Align with the rhythm of your inner energy. Be aware of all its nuances, and become harmonious with it.

It is a great gift to be evolved, but the moment becomes more enhanced by being aware.

Pay attention to the small moments. They are the seeds to the garden of your experience.

Be aware of what your energy brings to the table. Be responsible for altering your perspective in the situation. That ingredient may realign the drama and enhance the evolution.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It’s all about being conscious, being open and being in gratitude for what shows up. After all, you created it, right??

Podcast Transcript

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts

Hi and welcome to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcast. I’m Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – your one stop shop for all things intuitive and practical!

We’ve still got a few spots left for the January two session special. I’ve talked with some really neat people this month and am loving doing the work with you all. If you’re interested in jumping in, see the details on the post for this podcast.

Today’s topic was a suggestion from Nick at SpiritualRedux.com. He asked how to have faith in what the divine throws your way. That’s a great question because you know and I know that the Universe can have an interesting (shall we say) sense of humor and toss all manner of things at us when we least want or expect them. How do you trust that what shows up is for your highest good?

First, let’s start with the very radical premise that you create what shows up for you. Good or bad or in-between, you are responsible for it. Can you accept that you have that power in your life? Can you further accept that you draw to you experiences that help you grow?

If you can wrap your head around that concept then it’s much easier to understand what’s going on when the Divine throws something your way.

And now: Lisa’s real life example #937:

In March of 2011, I was all on fire about leaving my day job and transitioning into this work full time. I had momenturm, things started lining up to show me it was the right time and I was so close to turning in my two-week notice. Then, all hell broke loose at my office, someone left and I had to step in and take on another full time job in addition to what I was already doing. So, instead of leaving one job for my soul work, I had two full time jobs and no time for my soul work.

The day job took every ounce of my energy and I had no time to create classes or do readings – Practically Intuitive almost ground to a halt. I had to step back and look at what was going on. On a mundane level, it was that I had no energy left for this work. But looking at it from a higher perspective, I realized how much it terrified me that I would leave behind a consistent paycheck for doing the work of my soul – trusting that the Universe would support me.

So, I bailed on my soul work. Because I was scared. It wasn’t until September or October that I decided I was not going to put Practically Intuitive on the back burner any longer. And I came back to that work in full force mode.

I take responsibility for drawing a lot of angst and drama to me that didn’t have to be there. Sure, things at my office would still have happened as they did but because I was scared of stepping out on my own, I made it a bigger deal than it really had to be.

How did I manage to have faith that I’d get through it? Because I saw what lined up for me when I was ready. But I still ran away. I really did. I had to acknowledge that and own it before I could give the Universe the Go-Ahead to start things up once more.

And when that door opens again, as I know it will because I’m driving that door-opening train, I will go through, probably a lot more prepared than I was last year.

See, here’s the thing: you work in co-creation with your Guides and Teachers and the Universe at large. You toss out an intention, they lob something back at you. What you do with that is up to you entirely.

I tossed out that I wanted to leave my job, they tossed back at me the one thing my husband said he’d need for him to feel comfortable about our finances. (And let me tell you that it was a specific amount of money that just showed up for me so not something that happens every day.) I could have used that sign as a means to move forward. Instead, it brought up my fears.

So when the divine (who is really you working with Guides, Teacher and your own higher self) tosses something at you, look at where it comes from. Look at the lessons you are being offered and decide how you want to move forward. Consciousness about all this makes a big difference. I knew that I was scared to move forward but I didn’t realize how much I was until I dragged something in that made me make a clear choice: more energy to day job or more energy to Practically Intuitive. I think you know where I landed on that decision!

No matter what shows up, there are lessons to be learned. Whatever path you take (or if you take no path and float through life), there are lessons your soul set up before you became the you you are right now. When the divine tosses stuff your way, remember that the power to shift and change it is right in your own hands. Have faith in your self.

That’s all for this week – thanks for listening. Please add your thoughts and comments over on my Facebook page or on the post for this podcast. Enjoy your week! This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com. Bye for now.

Podcast Transcript

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts

Hi everyone! This is Lisa from PracticallyIntuitive.com and welcome to my weekly podcast where I talk about all kinds of things from the spiritual to the mundane with a focus on making it practical to you. It’s nice to talk about things from a theoretical stance but chances are you won’t find much of that here. I’ve learned that action down here in the physical to match whatever you’re doing in the energetic is what makes it all work together. If you’re not taking action on the things you want to change, nothing’s going to happen.

Thanks to everyone who is taking me up on the January special offer! Spaces are filling up and soon I’ll be all booked for the month. Here’s the dealio: two separate one-hour sessions where we look at what you want to shift and change, bring in your Guides and teachers for their perspective, add a dash of my mad intuitive skills and voila! Action steps and a plan you can take into the new year to really shake things up (in a good way, of course!). Two hours and you can get right on track. If you’re interested, please check here for more information and to sign up. This offer ends when January does so reserve your space now.

Today’s topic came from my friend Kelly St. Clair who asked me to look at how to cope as an empath. For those who are not familiar with that term, an empath is someone who can feel other people’s emotions as their own: you literally feel what other people feel.

It’s been said that only one in twenty [people are actual empaths – either I hang out with a lot of empaths (which is possible) or that’s no longer true because I know a lot of individuals who have this trait to varying degrees.

Those of us with very high empathic abilities can really feel the emotions of another as if they were our very own. Now, this is a very helpful thing for me when I’m working with a client because I can tune in and get a sense of what’s going on with them before they even tell me in words. And for many who cannot language their feelings well, it’s especially helpful to work with someone who can do that. Counselors and therapists use this skill this all the time.

However, an unskilled empath can find themselves weighed down by everyone’s emotions coming at them all the time. It’s like you’re walking in a store and everyone who comes by flings some sort of emotional yuck at you! You’re dodging anger, sadness, depression, rage and all kinds of things that aren’t yours. So you end up leaving the store covered in everyone else’s yuck adding to your own emotional porridge going on inside you. What a mess, eh?

Fellow empaths, I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s easy to turn that thermostat on your empathy way down unless you need it for some reason. I keep mine on very low except when I’m in a session with someone. Otherwise, I don’t need everyone else’s junk clogging me up!

Here’s how to do it: Imagine a thermostat in front of you – the kind in your house for your heat or air conditioning. Sixty degrees is all the way off. Eighty degrees is all the way on. Keep that picture in your head, okay?

Most times, your thermostat will be at 60 or even 62. That means you are feeling just your own stuff and even if you go to the mall and everyone is flinging crap around, your radar ain’t picking it up.

Growing up as an empath, I thought everyone could do this. I knew when my mom was sad even if she was smiling, I knew there was weird crap brewing in my family long before anyone said anything. Everyone can do that right? Nope. Nope and nope.

If you can, you’re an empath. Non-empaths can understand sadness from an intellectual point of view but they aren’t feeling it like it’s their own. That’s the difference.

It takes time and practice to turn this thermostat down and it also takes a willingness to do so. I liked being able to feel people’s stuff – it let me know what was going on around me. But there came a time when my mom’s hopelessness about her own life situation caused me to walk around feeling hopeless and I had no idea why. I just knew there was this blanket of “nothing I do ever works” around me that wasn’t mine.

Separating out her feelings from mine was hard because we were both used to not having to clearly communicate what was going on. We both just knew. But I couldn’t walk around like that any longer. It wasn’t until I learned that I didn’t have to walk around wide open that I began to consciously turn that part of me down a great deal.

Being an empath is a wonderful gift but it comes with some big lessons. Learning how to turn yours up and down will change your life. It did for one of my clients who now understands how much of everyone’s stuff she was carrying around that she didn’t have to. Her life has changed for the better once she learned that thermostat technique. Yours can too.

I’ll include some resources you can look into (books and such) that I’ve found helpful in understanding my gift of emotional empathy on the post for this podcast. And if you need some help in working with yours, please let me know. You can even use your two sessions in January to put this new found knowledge into practice right away.

That’s all for this podcast- this is Lisa from Practically Intuitive. Have a lovely week! Bye for now.

She then asked if we could contact her starseed group called “Blueprint Technicians” (definition and lots more info on starseed groups at this great site by Akemi Gaines). I hadn’t tried anything like this before but I’m always game to push the limits of my ability to connect.

Holy cow! Both she and I were taken aback at how they came through, the way they spoke, and the information they shared. We laughed about it afterward because there was no way to even put words to the experience. Just none. There was wisdom, kindness and most of all, full and complete presence.

When I bring through your Guides, they talk to me almost at the same time you do so I am really the mediator between you both. I have to listen and absorb what they are saying while listening to you. No problem – I can do that with ease.

These beings, though – when my client spoke they were totally and completely silent and present. No babbling in my ear, no noise. Just pure calm and silence. It blew me (and her!) away. As she said “This is so trippy!” (and it was – big time!)

My work as a channel is really to just step aside and allow the energy and presence of those with the highest vibrations to come through. The wisdom they share and the very practical guidance that comes through amazes me even as I speak the words.

I don’t know how I got to be so good at it, but I really am. The work of your soul will always be like that – you might not know how you know to do it, but you just do. And do it well.

I am surprised all the time because as I sit down to do a session with someone, I have no idea what will come through. None. And when an experience like this happens, it reminds me even more that there’s so much out there we don’t know and can’t begin to understand at this point.

Want to talk to your home team? I’d love to experience that with you because truly, words cannot describe it. You just have to be there.

Check out my Akashic Records Reading page for more info and to sign up for a session.

Podcast Transcript

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts

Hi and welcome to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcast. I’m Lisa and you can always find me at Practically Intuitive.com where I discuss matters of an intuitive nature from a range of different perspectives.

Last week I mentioned a special offer I have for the month of January only: I’m offering sessions to help you move out what no longer serves your highest good. Two hour-long sessions where we’ll identify what needs to be shifted, chat with your Guides to see what they suggest and then get it wrapped up into action steps for you. The link to purchase this special package is on the post for this podcast at Practicallyintuitive.com – come work with me and see how much you can get moving in just two hours!

Today’s topic is one that came up during a conversation with my coach Jaelin yesterday as I was catching her up from a hiatus over Christmas. Lots has changed for me in that time and it was really the fruition of months and months of work.

She said that so many people don’t really want to do the hard work to make those changes in their life – they have a drive-through mentality about spiritual work – come in, have a few cords cut and whoosh! Everything has changed. All the people who annoyed you before now magically disappear from your life and things are perfect.

Yeah, it’s not that way at all. We both know that even though there’s so many different modalities to help bring about change, there’s no magical answer. (And to that I say DAMMIT!) But there’s not.

I’ve had clients who are not willing to get in there and dig around, looking for the answers inside themselves. Because that’s really where it begins and ends – inside you.

When I was in my 30s, I spent a lot of time trying to save others. And there were many people who were only too happy to let me do that. I spent days and weeks and really years trying to help them. Why? To avoid looking inside myself. Much easier to try to save someone else, I thought.

When I realized that I was losing myself to save another (who, by the way, had no vested interest in saving himself – he rather liked all the attention), I knew I couldn’t go on that way. I had lost my life – I had willingly given it away. And so I took myself to therapy to begin the work of looking inside.

After years of talk therapy and not a whole lot of progress, I looked in another direction and found energetic healing work. And I started down that path. That was a better fit for me but even so, It has not been an easy road. But what is different is that I am open and willing to do the work. To dig in the dirt of my soul and find out what’s going on.

That’s the thing – any kind of healing work be it talk therapy, EFT, cutting cords of attachment – ANYthing – only works if you get in there and get your hands dirty, looking for clues and roadsigns. There are no easy answers. There’s lots of support from friends, healing practitioners, your Guides, Teachers and Angels but YOU must be willing to look under those rocks, in the closet, and under the bed.

As to what the work looks like? Can be anything, really. It depends on the person involved. For one, it might be to release what no longer serves them (which can be hard, if you think about it, because we all carry our crap baggage around even if it drags us down!). For another, person it might mean speaking up when it absolutely terrifies them. It’s as individual as we are. No one can tell you what yours is until you make the commitment to doing it.

There are no shortcuts to healing. None. Start with the willingness to do whatever you can, as best as you can. The time will come when you’re ready for the next step and it might not seem so hard.

From personal experience, I can tell you that it does get easier. Something that was absolutely gut-wrenching to me several years ago, where I couldn’t even entertain the thought of letting go, was released and done with ease this past year. I never thought I’d get to that point. But with lots of inner work and then putting that work into action, I was able to tackle something really big.

That’s the kinds of thing I can help you with because I know what goes into those big changes. I’ve walked that road myself – I still walk that road so I really do understand. If you’re not sure what “doing the work” means for you, take advantage of the January special and find out. It could change your life. And that’s not hyperbole, either! Your willingness is all it takes to open the flow.

That’s all for this week – please come join our Practically Intuitive community on Facebook and leave your comments, questions and thoughts there or right on PI itself. And if there’s anything you would like me to discuss, I welcome ideas and suggestions for topics.

This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – have a good week! Bye for now.

I was listening to a podcast the other day by psychic Ellen Mahloy and she went into some detail about the difference (as she sees it) between an intuitive and a psychic. Her thought is that an intuitive is the less focused version of a psychic. Both can use their sixth sense(s) but a psychic is able to tune in (and out!) at will.

Hmmm. I’m not so sure I agree with that definition.

I call myself an intuitive. Why? I like the word. It doesn’t quite have the baggage that the word ‘psychic’ does. We have lots of scam artists to thank for making that word sort of skeevy, you know?

But does that mean I can’t tune in at will? Nope. I can tune in as easily as thinking about it. I can tune out that fast, too. Like when I’m in a nursing home, a hospital or even a mall. Skills be off! Otherwise, I’m in and out of everyone’s energetic fields (as empaths often are) and that is not a good place for this chick.

Author of The Intuitive Way: The Definitive Guide to Increasing Your Awareness, Penney Peirce says:

“Intuitive ability is much more than predicting the highs and lows of the stock market or communing with spiritual entities. Psychic phenomena, as it turns out, are often just the first signs of a much greater and all-encompassing wisdom. …. Eventually you’ll discover what I’ve discovered: intuition is not just about knowing who’s calling you on the phone – it’s about attaining crystal clear perception.”

Now that I agree with! The search for deeper intuitive skills is really about become clearer in your understanding of what’s going on inside you and around you. When you connect the inner as it’s reflected in the outer, things begin to make a whole lot more sense.

Whether you call yourself an intuitive, a psychic or just someone who knows stuff but isn’t sure how you know it, it’s all about seeking clearer perception.

Podcast Transcript

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts

Hi again and welcome to the first Practically Intuitive podcast for 2012! This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – thanks for listening in!

So, did you end your year with some consciousness? I took time to listen to the wonderful meditation from Robert Ohotto, wrote out four things that I released from my life in 2011 and completed the ending ritual he gave. It was an enlightening process and I am eager to see how things shake out now that I’ve created space for new energies to come into my life this year. It’s really about acknowledging what no longer serves your highest good and letting it go with gratitude for what’s to come.

Speaking of what’s to come: are you ready for the shifts and changes that are now fully upon us? You’ve probably heard all the hub-bub about 2012 being the end of the mayan calendar and have experienced the doom-merchants peddling their fear and terror energies all over the place. Expect that part to become even more heightened as we move toward the end of the year, by the way. Sensationalism sells, unfortunately.

Let’s talk a bit about it, though. When I say shifts and changes are already upon us, what does that mean for you? Well, if you are a highly conscious person (and if you’re listening, you probably are!), it’s probably fairly obvious to you. Time is speeding up, things are manifesting even more quickly, potent universal energies are much more pronounced.

When you hear the term ‘new age’, it’s really referring to a new perspective and we are smack dab right in the middle of it now. Look at how people are fighting back against the powerful such as the Occupy Wall Street movement.

All of that is a shift in consciousness much the same way it was for those who spoke up back in the 60s about racial inequality and the Vietnam war. We are moving that work to a new level and 2012 is really the year when it takes shape.

There’s no place for a fear vibration here – the choice is to accept that we are collectively moving to a new place and go with it or to refuse to change and get left behind. Look at the movement to legalize gay marriage – many people fear it (for reasons that totally make no sense to me) yet we are not going back, no matter how much they clamor about marriage being between a man and a woman. There is no going back. There’s not. There is only movement forward and a willingness to open up to what is new.

I want to share with you the words of Darlene Chadbourne, an exquisite numerologist found at DarleneChadbourne.com as she talks about the energies of 2012 in her year end newsletter:

(And if you’re not familiar with numerology, take a look at her site – she makes it easy to understand how the energies show up for you.) She says:

“Tonight we enter 2012 which is a 5 year. Five has to do with change. I welcome and invite the change to a more cooperative existence that empowers each individual to be an integral part of the whole in order to create a new and healthier structure and foundation.

The events of 9/11/2001=14/5, changed each of our individual lives. One represents the individual self. That event also changed the structure and foundation of our safety and security represented by the number 4, the foundation of our material world.

That day opened up a new level of conscious awareness as it drew a global wave of attention focused on love and compassion for the loss of so many people. The candlelight vigils around the globe brought a massive outpouring of light into a very dark moment in time. This moment in time was not caused by a natural disaster but man-made destruction.

As we move into a 5 year (2012), the Universal energy and globally everyone is demanding change. The old 4-square energy of foundation is crumbling.

Honor the work you have completed and the decisions that have brought to this moment in time. It is time now to expand your vision and choose a new look for our society.

With all of this change energy surrounding us, let’s stand tall in who we are as individuals while reaching out to others. These new beginnings have the base of deep understanding and wisdom that we have learned along the way, hopefully bringing together opposites uniting for the common good of all.

It is helpful to be doing this while standing fully present in the now moment and staying out of the fear of the unknown while envisioning the world we want to live in. Look to your future with optimism and hope, knowing that magic and new horizons are just around the corner.

Yes, staying out of the fear is so important. I cannot emphasize that enough. Fear is a primal emotion that all of us react to almost without thinking which is why you see it ramped up so much in the media. Know that change is upon us, collectively, and you can choose to move with it, opening yourself to the energies that love and support us all to do our work.

I’d like to do that by offering special sessions through the month of January to help you move out what no longer serves your highest good. Two hour-long sessions where we’ll identify what needs to be shifted, chat with your Guides to see what they suggest and then get it wrapped up into action steps for you.

Be ready to meet the challenges of 2012 with a open heart and a conscious mind. No better way to do it.

You’ll find all the information on the special sessions just for the month of January on this post over at Practically Intuitive.com

Cheers to a wonderful year ahead filled with easy lessons and lots of fun and joy!

This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – Have a lovely week. Bye for now.

Ego or Enlightenment

10 Sure Signs Someone Is Working From Ego

Here is a light-hearted look at the many faces and phrases of ego. Have a read and notice where your clients or prospects use these. Read through to the end where you’ll learn a simple way to deal with it.

1. Blaming others – going into victim mode

Any time someone blames other people, events or circumstances it’s a sign they’re not taking responsibility. They will give plenty of very good reasons why their life isn’t perfect, and it’s never anything to do with them, their choices or their responses to events. There’s just nothing they can do about it. They also like to spend a lot of time grumbling about it.

An enlightened person looks at the situation, decides what they would like to be different, and then go and put into action those things necessary to make that happen.

2. Blaming themselves

It goes like this “it’s all my fault! I’m not a good enough… I should have…. I shouldn’t have…”

It can look like being evolved, but really it’s an excuse to stay in the past, and to not make changes in their behaviour, beliefs and attitudes. It’s also very attention seeking.

An enlightened person will say “hmm, well, that was interesting… and here’s what I’m going to do differently next time” and then quietly get on with making best of the situation.

3. They are always right (and never wrong)

The inability to admit a mistake ever is a sure sign of ego. This person will defend, argue and use all kinds of evidence to demonstrate they are right.

An enlightened person will know that there are many truths, and it’s for each person to find what works for them. They allow others their own truth, are willing to experiment with other ideas and then make up their mind what works for them.

4. They know everything ABOUT everything

You know the type. They know everything. They’ve read every book, know every spiritual theory and will gladly tell you about them all the time. Often they are so full of knowing that there’s no room for new ideas.

A sign of true enlightenment is the ability to learn from everyone and anyone in any situation. They will ask questions. They will seek to understand others.

5. They never have any problems, only solutions

This aspect of ego is all about keeping up appearances. They never admit to having any problems or struggles. They will tell you that are too evolved for such things. They also know exactly how to solve everyone else’s problems and are the first to jump up and insist they help others.

An enlightened person admits to their struggles but not in a way that burdens others. Rather they share it create empathy with their fellow traveller. But they are also careful to let their fellow traveller know that things can and will be different. They also ask for help when they need it, and accept it graciously.

6. They know exactly what’s wrong with you, the world and everyone else

This egomaniac is full of theories about exactly what’s wrong with society, religion, the government, the economy, the environment. They will be loud and high on their soap box telling the world that THEY need to change, and doing their best to trigger guilt in others.

An enlightened person knows that the world is perfect AND there might still be some things they want to change, but they start that change in themselves.

7. They never ask for help, never have a coach, mentor or spiritual teacher.

They don’t need it because, of course, they are completely enlightened and know everything. They have all they need inside them and don’t need any help to access it or awaken their potential. Dear me NO. They are above all that and quite perfect thank you.

But they WILL tell you that you need to learn from THEIR mentor, or them.

A truly enlightened person will constantly stretch themselves. They will seek out others who can stretch them. They will also be able to gain learning from any mentor, even those who might seem less well trained then themselves.

8. They constantly point out how un-evolved other people are.

They are very judgemental of others, their behaviour and their beliefs. They will continuously point out the flaws in others, and will give unsolicited advice about exactly what that person needs to do to change. They will leave others feeling insecure, inadequate and as if they have failed.

An enlightened person makes everyone feel good. They naturally bring out the best in others, because they can SEE the goodness in others and somehow manage to get them to feel it too.

9. They don’t go on any courses or programmes.

They don’t need to because they are so enlightened. They are for other less enlightened people, and of course, because they are so enlightened they have no need for more learning. They will say things like “I already have that…” “It’s not the right time”, “That course would be perfect for other less evolved people”, “I already know that”. Another favourite phrase the ego loves to say to a teacher is “I think I have something to teach you”. (if you’re a spiritual teacher you’ll likely have heard this more than once)

The enlightened person knows that they can learn from any experience and is always open to new knowledge, new groups and new experiences. They constantly invest in themselves.

10. Their lives never change

The purpose of Ego is to keep you safe, and it always thinks the safest thing to do is to avoid change. So a sign that a person is working from ego their lives never seem to change. They have the same situations, experiences and problems (that they may not admit to) over and over again.

A sign of an enlighten person is that they go from “the same thing time and again” to “one thing after another”. They still have challenges, but they are new challenges and they relish them rather than shying back from them.

Bonus tip

They don’t admit to ever having any ego and will deny that any of the above relate to them or ever have. They will also say that these points are WRONG!

Ok I know some of these points might seem a bit controversial. But if you’re sitting smugly thinking none of the above relate to you… then try this…

Fill your heart with compassion for your ego. It’s the part of you that is trying to keep you safe and alive. Thank it for doing its best to do so. Then as you read the above points notice where you might be doing this, and forgive yourself.

Then fill your heart with compassion for other’s ego. Notice that their ego is just trying to keep them safe. Forgive them. And forgive yourself for judging them. Forgive yourself for anything and everything at all. This is the best Christmas present you can give to yourself.

Where you think the above points are wrong. Simply witness the judgement. You don’t have to decide they are right. Simply be willing to experiment with the idea, try it on, try it out, and then decide if it is a truth for you or not.

Lastly, just love. Love yourself, your ego, and the ego of others.
