Wow, I can’t believe it’s October already and I’m on podcast #13! Hi everyone and welcome back to the weekly Practically Intuitive Podcast. I’m Lisa from Practically Intuitive – thanks for listening in!

My newly-redesigned website is up and running and I’m so excited about it. I’ll be adding more things to it as time goes by such as the book reviews I am doing for Pathways Magazine, mentoring packages to help you step into the light with your intuitive skills and lots more so bookmark it and come on back. You’ll find the weekly podcast posted on Monday and then something written on Thursdays.

And now, on to today’s topic: Spiritual Addiction (or, as Anna Conlan calls it “Spiritual Imbalance”). What is it? And if you are addicted, how can you bring more balance into your life?

Being out of balance happens in all areas, not just spiritual. You could eat only crap from McDonalds and no veggies and that’s being nutritionally out of balance. You could exercise 37 days a week and spend no time with your kids. That’s out of balance as well. Get the picture? Anything you do that is out of proportion to the rest of your life can cause problems. I don’t have to tell you that – it’s common sense, right?

So, what’s the deal with spiritual addiction?

Many of us, myself fully included in this group, really go overboard when first stepping into the spiritual world. It just feeds our soul and we all just “get it” and feel like we see everything through different eyes.

What’s wrong with that? Well, nothing really as long as you understand that learning, growing, doing things on your spirit filled path is but a part of the whole picture. When it becomes everything to you, at the expense of your daily life here in the physical, then it becomes a kind of addiction, like food or drugs or alcohol. When it prohibits your functioning in the material world, it’s an addiction.

For me, learning things like energy healing, Reiki, Law of Attraction stuff comes so easily. I don’t have to study. It’s like my major in college, counseling psychology, was a breeze to me. I absorbed the information and it somehow stayed with me. Seriously, I could easily be a perpetual student. I love learning. It’s that simple.

And because it came so easily to me, I devoured it like a starving person. It filled me up in a big way. That’s all fine and good.

Thing is – you have to do something with all you’ve learned or your hunger for it becomes that kind of imbalance. Like it’s all stuck up in your head as information but has no sense of practicality.

With any kind of thing you really dig, it’s got to have a place in your life. And it’s got to be balanced out with other more mundane things. Remember “Rockin’ the Woo-dane”? That’s what I’m talking about here. Your spiritual self is but a part of your overall self. It’s not the sum total of who you are.

If you find yourself a bit unbalanced in the search for your spiritual self, there are lots of ways to bring yourself back into balance. When I’ve done a few readings in a row and find myself flying along on the high high vibrations, I go out and hug a tree. I really actually do. We have several large trees here and hanging on to them reminds me that my feet are here, planted on this earth for a reason.

You can hug a tree, walk barefoot in the grass, eat some chocolate, go for a walk, hug your kids or partner – anything that calls you to be present and in your body will help you find that balance. Don’t let your search to find that spirit filled piece of you take over your whole life. It will come whether you go at it guns a’blazing or not, I promise. The most important thing is to use the information you’re gaining, whether in a reading, a healing or a class in your own life. Bring it down into the physical and use it to make things easier and better for you. Once you’ve integrated it, then you can take another bite and enjoy it even more because you’ve shifted from working with that last bit of information.

Balance and integration will help you grow in all ways: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Leave any of them out and you’re heading toward an imbalance and you don’t want that. For me, it was the physical part – and this year has been all about learning to live fully in my body as a part of the greater picture. Taking pilates was the first step and I can’t tell you how hard it was to pull my spirit back into my body – I was so used to flying around out there untethered. (And I’ll admit to you that several times I almost started crying in class because it was so hard to come back down into my body.) But you know what? I got there. Week by week by week. And now? Body and soul happily work together during class.

Balance and integration, y’all. That’s the key.

Thanks, as always, for tuning in. You can always find me over at PracticallyIntuitive.com. Enjoy the lovely fall weather and I’ll see you next week. Bye for now!
