Inspired by a post on my friend Lindsay’s blog “The Daily Awe”, I’m discussing the Six Universal Laws of being human.

There are lessons everywhere and that’s what we’ll look at with these six laws.

Also, an answer to Kimberly G’s question!

Hi, and welcome to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcast. Hopefully, you know that I’m Lisa and on these podcasts, I share my thoughts on things of an intuitive nature which also includes chats with Spirit Guides, how to make your intuition work for you and ways spiritual healing can help you make some big changes in your life.

Don’t forget that you can subscribe to these podcasts right on iTunes – that way you get the ones you might miss and can be up to date on all the ones to come. And if you want to leave a comment about the podcasts there on iTunes, I’d love that!

You’ve got mail! Okay, well, I’ve got mail and this week one of my wonderful listeners, Kimberly G. sent in this question so before we get to today’s topic, I want to answer her question.

Kimberly said, “I do understand that our guides aren’t fairies that we send wishes off to for the things that we want. They’re Guides not Genies.

But I’m certain that they have some impact on our life and wanted to ask is if they’re here for support and inspiration. I feel their warnings, I feel that annoying nerve jangle they do when I’m on the wrong path (okayyy, I hearrrr you!!!), and I hear the inspired ideas.

So – do I have this right? My guides can’t step in and rearrange people and circumstances to get me a new car, but they can inspire me to go into a direction that will lead me to a new car. Am I close?”

Not only are you close, Kimberly, but you got it exactly right. Human free will prohibits the Guides and teachers from moving people and situations around to bring you your desired goal BUT, just as you say, they can and do inspire you to go in a direction that gets you there. It’s totally up to you to take action. You get to choose.

As I mentioned last week, taking care of us and offering support and direction is their entire reason for being. Using their free will, they chose to work as Guides and they chose us to work with. I think that’s pretty cool, actually.

Thanks for your question, Kimberly. And if you have any questions you’d like me to answer, please contact me.

This week’s topic comes from something I saw on my friend Lindsay’s site The Daily Awe.

It’s The Six Universal Laws for being Human, and when I read it, the truth of it hit home with me. So, let’s take a look at those Universal laws today.

You will be given a body. Hopefully, you’ve got yours by now. If you didn’t maybe you got in the wrong line? Okay, I’ll assume we are all on the same page here.

Next law: You will be taught lessons. Some of these will be fun ones, some will be poignant ones, some will hurt like you wouldn’t believe. But we all get lessons. There’s not one person, no matter how much money they have or what their status is, that doesn’t get lessons – plural.

That’s not to say we all learn our lessons, right? Getting them (like homework given in class) and learning them (like being tested on the homework material) are very different things.

And that leads us to Universal law #3: There are no mistakes in life, only lessons.

Lots of lessons can masquerade as mistakes, can’t they? But if you view the things that you chose to do that might had less than stellar results and perhaps even sucky consequences, you’ll see that there were lessons inherent in the experience.

Looking at things from that perspective changes everything. If something weird happens that I really didn’t intend, I always ask my higher self – what is mine to learn from this? And then I listen.

Although, that’s not always easy which leads us to Universal Law #4: If a lesson is not learned, it gets repeated.

And you all know this is true. I wish it weren’t. But it is. That relationship with the overly controlling partner that took you three years to end? How is it you manage to find yourself right back in another one just like it?

That’s because there’s something in that relationship that you need to learn – maybe it’s how to speak your own mind, or that you can’t function well under someone’s thumb or fifty other reasons. But if you find yourself right back in the same place, look for the lesson. And get it this time – even if it takes you a while.

Why?

Universal law #5 says: The more often a lesson is repeated, the harder it gets.

Gosh, isn’t that fun to know? But yeah, it gets harder because the lesson is so important to your growth, your evolution. If it weren’t, it totally wouldn’t show up again.

The key here is to get the lesson the first or second time around. It’s easier and less painful, generally. Ask yourself, as I do, what is mine to learn here? And listen. Really listen. The answer will come, if it’s not obvious to you right away.

The best part? Universal law #6: You know you’ve learned your lesson when your actions change.

Have you heard that poem about Walking down the street? It exemplifies this last law perfectly.

I walk down the street.
There is a hole.
I don’t see it.
I fall in.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes a very long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is still a deep hole.
I pretend not to see it.
I fall in.
I pretend it’s still not my fault.
It takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is still the same deep hole.
I see it.
I fall in anyway.
It’s a habit.
I get out quicker this time.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole.
I see it.
I walk around it.
I don’t fall in.

I walk down a different street!!!

That’s it – you do something different and the lesson is learned. That’s the beauty of these laws – when you take action to make a change, it signals your higher self and your guides that you see clearly now where maybe you didn’t before. The lesson is learned. No more need for a 2 x 4 to the head.

I’ve had lessons (huge ones) that have taken me ten years of diligent learning and growing and trying to create that “walking down a different street” action. But I got there. And it was a wonderful feeling to fully understand and get that big big lesson.

I’ll leave you with this question: what lesson are you ignoring that you know you need to pay attention to? Is there one thing you can do right now to “walk down a different street”? Just one thing. That’s all it takes to create a shift.

It’s still giveaway month for one more week and I’m cooking up something really good for this last one so be sure to come by PracticallyIntuitive.com on Thursday to see what it is. I like things easy peasy so leaving a comment automatically enters you in the drawing.

That’s all for this time- thanks for listening and I’ll talk to you again next Monday. This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive. Have a great week!

Thanks so much for the shout out! I just love those rules. I have 'em here in my office to remind me — just in case I forget!

As for what lesson I'm ignoring well…I know EXACTLY what that is and I know what I have to do. I just need to get the will power to do it.

Thanks for keeping me company at the gym again – see eventually I will be thin AND educated. Lessons have been pouring out of my ears for over a year now…where it stops, nobody knows! I hope I have finally learned to stop and pay attention before it escalates or spirals out of control.

This one especially – thanks for the motivation. Time to make a change!
